Portland Rose Festival

This past weekend Tom left me for a boys weekend in Kansas City. :) Being on my own, I got to eat loads of healthy food, such as, ice cream and cookies for lunch and dinner. I also got to put off folding laundry and watched some girly movies. It was a good time. hehe.

A few weekends ago, Oregonians started getting ready for the Portland Rose Festival with pre-events like the Starlight Parade and Starlight run (costume 5K). Unfortunately, Tom has all those pictures on his camera, which I'm sure he'll be putting up in a few days. This past weekend Oregonians gathered by the river front for the Portland Rose Festival. I only got to see a little bit of the parade on TV, but it looked like a huge turn out. Around the waterfront, they had carnival games, rides and food tents set up. They left out some of the floats for people to look at. All the floats used fresh flowers, and all visible parts of the floats had to be decorated with natural materials. (its very Oregon, I know). :)

If you can look closely, they used rice, seeds, and nuts to make this part of the float. Many of the floats were covered/decorated like this...even the Beast in the picture above. His whole outfit was colored seeds and rice. Crazy!

In addition to the Rose Festival, it was Fleet week here in Portland. Many of our bridges were raised to make way for some of the big boats to dock here. The one below is a WWII boat. .
